PORTLAND – Two teenage girls who ran away for four days were found, apparently safe and healthy, Saturday night in Portland.

The girls apparently were found at the Occupy Maine encampment in Lincoln Park two days after the encampment was searched by police who had a tip that the girls were there.

George Sproul, the father of one of the runaway girls, Dominique Lee Sproul, said his daughter told him that she had spent most of the four days in the park with the protesters.

Sproul said the two girls were being examined at Mercy Hospital and were “a little tired and cold” but otherwise appeared unharmed.

Sproul said he was told that Portland police had found the girls, although the police said they could not immediately confirm that and could only say that the two had been reunited with their parents.

Andrea Temm Fuller, the mother of the other girl, Rachel Ann Fuller, said on her Facebook page that she and Rachel’s father found the two after “pounding the pavement.”

The search had been led by police in Buxton, where Rachel Fuller lives. Sproul lives in Limington.

Police had checked out tips from the Portland area and even had police in Massachusetts check in with Dominique Sproul’s mother in Worcester.

The two 14-year-olds were last seen Tuesday at Bonny Eagle High School, where they are freshmen. Their parents realized they were missing when they went home in the evening.

Sproul said he was torn between being mad at his daughter for running away and happy that she was found safe.
