Hike in the Park

2 p.m. in Freeport

Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park offers nature programs year-round every weekend. This week’s program focuses on the different ways that nature prepares for winter. Meet at the benches at the end of the second parking lot. No reservations needed. Free with park admission, which is $1 for ages 5 to 11 and $3 for ages 12 to 64. Survival in the Forest

2 p.m. in Holden

Field Pond Audubon Center is hosting a nature program on survival techniques in the woods. Tom Copeland will demonstrate how to build a shelter, how to identify edible plants, how to build a fire, and survive a stay in the woods. Dress warm with hiking boots. Cost is $6.
