A 28- year- old Brunswick man charged Thursday afternoon with operating under the influence was arrested shortly after being bailed out of the Brunswick Police Station on Thursday evening after officers allegedly saw him slash a tire on a police cruiser.

Joshua Knight, 28, of 185 Casco Road, Brunswick, was arrested just after 5 p. m. Thursday, following a minor car crash on Pleasant Street near Sunshine Cleaners, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said today.

Knight’s vehicle struck the vehicle in front of him, and responding officers arrested him on a charge of operating under the influence — a felony charge because Knight has previously been convicted of OUI twice, according to Hagan.

Early Thursday evening, Knight was released from the police station on $560 unsecured bail, Hagan said.

As Knight exited the station with the person who bailed him out, Brunswick Police Officer Tom Stanton allegedly saw him slash the tire on a police cruiser.

Hagan said that because Stanton realized Knight held a sharp object in his hand, Stanton drew his firearm.

At first, Knight wouldn’t comply, Hagan said. He then allegedly threw the knife under the car. Knight was then arrested without incident.

Hagan said police had taken the knife from Knight during the earlier arrest for OUI, and returned it to him when he made bail at the station.

Knight was charged with violation conditions of release and aggravated criminal mischief and taken to Cumberland County Jail, where he was held on $2,500 bail.

He is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Superior Court on Jan. 17.
