TAMPA, Fla. – Tavon Austin returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, Pat Miller scored on a 52-yard interception return and Tyler Bitancurt kicked a 28-yard field goal as time expired Thursday night, helping No. 22 West Virginia clinch a share of the Big East championship with a 30-27 victory against South Florida.

The Mountaineers (9-3, 5-2) pulled even with Louisville in the conference standings and likely will receive the league’s automatic berth in the Bowl Championship Series if Cincinnati beats Connecticut on Saturday to create a three-way tie for the title.

USF (5-7, 1-6) finished its season on a three-game losing streak and failed to qualify for a bowl bid for the first time in seven years.

TEXAS A&M: Mike Sherman was fired as coach after a 6-6 regular season.

NEW HAMPSHIRE T.I. 78, SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 69: Emmanuel Donaldson had 15 points and Josh Mackie added 11 as the Seawolves (4-5, 2-3 YSCC) lost at Concord, N.H.

(1) KENTUCKY 81, ST. JOHN’S 59: Freshman Anthony Davis scored 15 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had eight of a school-record 18 blocks as Kentucky (7-0) beat St. John’s (4-4) at Lexington, Ky.

Terrence Jones added 26 points and nine rebounds.

GEORGETOWN 57, (12) ALABAMA 55: Hollis Thompson hit a long 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left as Georgetown (6-1) ended a 24-game home winning streak for Alabama (7-1).

Jason Clark, who had 22 points, dribbled up the court and practically handed off to Thompson in front of the Hoyas’ bench. Thompson drilled it to give Georgetown its second win in three games against a team ranked in the top 12.

HARVARD 55, VERMONT 48: Keith Wright scored 13 points and Laurent Rivard added 12 for Harvard (7-0), which beat Vermont (4-3) at Burlington, Vt.

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 51, NEW HAMPSHIRE T.I. 46: Emily Bard had 17 points and three steals to lead the Seawolves (7-1, 5-0 YSCC) over the Lynx (5-3, 4-1) at Concord, N.H.

(7) DUKE 64, (13) PURDUE 53: Haley Peters scored 14 points to help Duke (5-1) beat Purdue (6-1) at Durham, N.C.

Chloe Wells added 13 points and Chelsea Gray had 11 for the Blue Devils, who finished with a 50-32 rebound margin. Duke won for the 50th time in 51 home games, extending its school-record winning streak at Cameron Indoor Stadium to 27 games.

(9) MIAMI 76, MICHIGAN STATE 60: Morgan Stroman scored 20 points in a near-perfect shooting night to lead Miami (6-1) past Michigan State (5-3) in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at East Lansing, Mich.

Stroman finished 7 of 7 from the field and 6 of 7 from the foul line. Shenise Johnson added 13 points and Stefanie Yderstrom had 11 in Miami’s second-closest game this season.

(24) DELAWARE 81, PRINCETON 70: Elena Delle Donne scored 32 points to help visiting Delaware (5-0) beat Princeton (6-1).

It was the Blue Hens’ first-ever game as a ranked team. They entered the poll Monday.
