BURLINGTON, Vt. – Spencer Abbott and Joey Diamond each scored twice to lead the University of Maine men’s hockey team to a 5-2 win over Vermont at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Diamond scored both of his goals during a 4:17 span of the first period, and Abbott made it 4-0 in the second period.

Matt Mangene also scored, and Abbott, Brian Flynn and Will O’Neill each had two assists.

Maine improved to 6-6-2 overall, 3-5-1 in Hockey East.

COLBY 4, BOWDOIN 3: Michael Doherty scored with 1:11 remaining as the Mules (2-4) got three goals in the final 6:30 to edge the Polar Bears (3-2-1) at Brunswick.

USM 6, BABSON 0: Troy Thibodeau and Ryan Seward each had a goal and an assist to help the Huskies (3-4, 3-3 ECAC East) beat the Beavers (3-6, 3-3) at Gorham.

UMASS-BOSTON 8, UNE 3: The Beacons (3-5-2, 1-5) used five second-period goals to overcome a 3-1 deficit against the Nor’easters (2-6-1, 1-5) at Biddeford.

Scott McManaman had a goal and an assist for UNE.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

COLBY 2, BOWDOIN 1: Brianne Wheeler made 39 saves and Carolyn Fuwa scored on a power play 3:49 into overtime to give the Mules (2-3-1) a win over the Polar Bears (1-2-1) at Waterville.

BOSTON COLLEGE 4, MAINE 3: Melissa Bizzari scored in overtime to lift the Eagles (11-4-1) over the Black Bears (9-6-4) at Orono.

Kelly McDonald scored two power-play goals for Maine.

MANHATTANVILLE 0, USM 0: Liz Bergstrom made 35 saves, including 16 in the third period and three in overtime, to help the Huskies (3-3-1, 3-2-1 ECAC East) earn a draw with Manhattanville (4-4-1, 3-2-1) at Gorham.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

COLBY 56, BOWDOIN 41: Jil Vaughan had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Mules (5-0) over the Polar Bears (3-2) at Waterville.

Aarika Ritchie added 12 points for Colby. Kaitlin Donahoe scored 12 points for Bowdoin.

NAVY 73, MAINE 56: Kara Pollinger scored 24 points and Audrey Bauer added 15 as the Midshipmen (4-3) downed the Black Bears (3-5) in the Navy Classic at Annapolis, Md.

Samantha Wheeler had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Black Bears.

UNE 68, SALVE REGINA 56: Kelley Paradis scored 24 points, and Beth Suggs added 14 points and nine rebounds to lead the Nor’easters (4-1, 2-0 Commonwealth Coast) past the Seahawks (2-3, 1-1) at Biddeford.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 75, USM 57: Lauren Kelleher had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Warriors (3-2) past the Huskies (4-3) in a Little East Conference opener at Willimantic, Conn.

Haley Jordan had 22 points for Southern Maine.

BATES 74, NORWICH 62: Kelsey Flaherty had 17 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds as the Bobcats (4-1) defeated the Cadets (2-5) in the championship game of the Hockenbury Classic at Northfield, Vt.

WESTFIELD STATE 77, ST. JOSEPH’S 54: Jen Ashton had 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to help the Owls (3-4) beat the Monks (4-3) at Weston, Mass.

Nicolette Kapothanasis led St. Joseph’s with 12 points.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 80, UNITY 36: Katelyn Benson had 18 points, six steals and three assists to lead the Seawolves (8-1, 6-0 YSCC) to a win at South Portland.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BOWDOIN 96, UMAINE-PRESQUE ISLE 66: Ryan O’Connell scored 20 points, and Will Hanley had 14 points and 16 rebounds as the Polar Bears (4-2) rolled past the Owls (2-3) at Brunswick.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 67, USM 62: Jamie Kohn made a go-ahead layup with 28 seconds left as the Warriors (4-1) edged the Huskies (5-2) in a Little East Conference opener at Willamantic, Conn.

Chris Pagentine led Southern Maine with 14 points.

SALVE REGINA 76, UNE 60: Salve Regina (4-2, 2-0 Commonwealth Coast) scored the game’s first 13 points on its way to a win over the Nor’easters (0-6, 0-2) at Biddeford.

Jarryd Rossignol scored 17 points and Brian Jones added 14 for UNE.

ALBERTUS MAGNUS 77, ST. JOSEPH’S 72: Zach O’Brien scored 20 points, but the Monks (4-1) lost their Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener at Standish.

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 93, PAUL SMITHS 75: Josh Mackie scored 30 points and the Seawolves forced 27 turnovers (5-5) on the way to a win at South Portland.
