BOSTON, Mass. — Bobbie Jo Grant, 43, of South Portland, formerly of Yarmouth, died Dec. 8 at Kindred Hospital in Brighton, Mass., from complications of spina bifida.

Born on August 28, 1968 in Portland, she was the daughter of Iris and Randolph Grant. She was educated in Yarmouth schools and graduated from Yarmouth High School.

Grant enjoyed reading, especially romance and mysteries, from a wide range of authors. She also enjoyed country music, puzzles, the CSI series on television, and was a member of a bowling team.

Family and friends will remember her as someone who enjoyed helping others, even serving, for a time, as a personal care assistant. They will also remember her determination, tenacity and strong sense of independence and self. Her handicap did not stop her from assuming life’s challenges and she handled her situation with honesty and dignity.

Her greatest accomplishment and source of happiness in life was her daughter, Taylor.

Grant is survived by her daughter Taylor Grant of South Portland; mother Iris Grant of South Portland; three brothers Dale Grant of Yarmouth, Dean Grant and his wife Michelle and their children Joseph, Benjamin, Nicole and Ryan, of Freeport, and Scott Grant and his wife Valerie and their children, Derek and George, of Acton.

Visiting hours were held on Dec. 12 at Lindquist Funeral Home in Yarmouth. A graveside service was held on Dec. 13 at Riverside Cemetery, Smith Street, Yarmouth.
