FALMOUTH ( AP) — The creator and host of Maine’s version of “American Bandstand” has died at 92.

“ The Dave Astor Show” launched in 1956 and ran for 16 years on Maine television. Astor’s family says he died Saturday from an apparent heart attack.

Astor said his show was “for teenagers only” because he figured everyone was a pre- teen, teenager or postteenager, and they controlled the family TV set. Participants had to be honor roll students to appear on the show, which featured live music and other acts each Saturday evening.

The Maine Historical Society hosted a reunion for Dave and his “ kids” earlier this year. Astor’s funeral was held Tuesday at Temple Beth El in Portland.
