Academy looking for young executives

TOPSHAM — The Young Entrepreneurs Academy, or YEA!, is an innovative program that guides students through the process of starting their own real business.

Steven Wallace, president of Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber, recently announced the start of the first and only YEA! in Maine in cooperation with Southern New Hampshire University.

YEA! is a program that takes students between the ages of 11 and 18 through the process of launching a real business or social movement over the course of an academic year. YEA! was developed at the University of Rochester with support from The Kauffman Foundation.

The program requires a sixmonth, 99-hour commitment from its young executives.

Cottage Connection earns another award

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — For the third consecutive year, Cottage Connection of Maine has been selected for the 2011 Best of Boothbay Harbor Award in the Vacation Rentals category by the U.S. Commerce Association.

The USCA “Best of Local Business” award program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that it believes have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category.

Burgess Computer offers training class

BATH — Burgess Computer will present an 11-week, 66- hour CompTIA A+ IT Technician training class beginning on Jan. 24. The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m., and will run through April 5.

CompTIA A+ IT Technician certification training is great for people who want to enter the IT field or existing PC support professionals who want to augment and certify their knowledge of appropriate IT support methods.

Passionflower moving back to W. Bath farm

BATH — Kathe Mickunas, owner of Passionflower Farm, has announced that her floral design business will return to its original family flower farm starting in January.

Passionflower Farm, located within Ornament at 11 Centre St. in Bath, will remain open through Dec. 31, with the new location open for business by appointment in West Bath starting in January. Passionflower will contin- ue with phone orders, bouquets for local delivery, and special event flowers through this transition.

Passionflower Farm specializes in naturalistic flower design, and grows its own floral materials during the Maine growing season. The farm is located on New Meadows Road and provides opportunities for visitors to see the gardens firsthand and choose from the farm’s MOFGA-certified organic flowers and plants.

Body Symmetry helps Salvation Army

BRUNSWICK — For many, the Salvation Army’s signature red bucket and the ringing of the bells are familiar.

Starting Saturday, and through Dec. 31, Body Symmetry will be accepting donations to benefit the Salvation Army by attending any of its classes that week.

Instructors will donate their time so 100 percent of all donations go to the Bath Salvation Army to benefit Mid-coast families in need. This is the seventh year Body Symmetry’s owner, Martha Kittle, has chosen the Salvation Army not only for their symbolism of celebration and their beacon of hope, but also to continue to give to a group that gives so much to everyone.

“We’ve been doing this event since 2004, and our clients always look forward to this special week,” Kittle said.

Lisbon Community CU celebrates opening

LEWISTON — The Lisbon Community Federal Credit Union is celebrating the grand opening of its new branch in Lewiston today, according to a news release.

Located at 802 Sabattus St., on the corner of Old Greene Road and Sabattus Street, the new branch represents a major step forward in the credit union’s expansion into the Lewiston-Auburn area.
