ORONO — Ted Woodward, the University of Maine men’s basketball coach, received a contract extension through the 2015 season, Athletic Director Steve Abbott announced Thursday.

“I continue to be impressed with the leadership and integrity that Ted has shown as our head coach,” Abbott said. “His teams have done very well on the court and in the classroom.”

Woodward is in his eighth season with the Black Bears, with records of 69-108 overall and 38-62 in America East. He has led the team to consecutive top-three finishes in America East.

Woodward was named the America East coach of the year for the 2009-10 season.

He was also a finalist for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award.

“I am very grateful to President (Paul) Ferguson and Steve Abbott, and for the opportunity to continue leading the men’s basketball program at Maine,” Woodward said.

“We will continue to work hard to have our program represent the university and the state with great character, class and achievement.”
