Sometimes celebrity real estate rumors start flying and there’s hardly any truth to them. On the rare occasion, the rumors are precursor to the real story, like in the case of Ellen DeGeneres buying Brad Pitt’s remodeled Malibu home.

The whispers of DeGeneres looking into Pitt’s estate were first reported around Thanksgiving by Real Estalker, only a month after she and wife Portia De Rossi put their custom home up for sale for a pricey $49 million.

In early December, the plot thickened when moving trucks were spotted at Pitt’s house and the Malibu listing was pulled from the MLS. All signs were pointing to a sale and then, DeGeneres’ purchase was confirmed early December 19.

Pitt picked up his Malibu home right after his divorce to Jennifer Aniston for $8.41 million. A self-professed architecture buff, Pitt spent months renovating the mid-century modern. Although the home has 4,088 square feet of living space with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, it’s most likely on the small side for the 8-person Jolie-Pitt clan, but should be ideal for DeGeneres and De Rossi and their small menagerie of pets.

Pitt’s bluff-side home features walls of glass with sweeping views of the coastline, dark bamboo flooring, and a modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and walk-in refrigerator and freezer. Set back from the Pacific Coast Highway behind private gates, the home has stairs and access to a sandy beach cove.
