ON NOV. 14, an elementary school-level training conference for Civil Rights Teams and their advisers was held in Augusta. Lisbon Community School was well represented. Students actively participated in group sessions for team building and shared ideas for projects within the school. The LHS Civil Rights team meets on a regular basis in the school library.

A team from Lisbon Community School met with other groups for training on Nov. 14. The Lisbon group is led by Assistant Principal Ryan Patrie and community adviser Monica Millhime.
“Our Civil Rights Team at LCS is a school-based, co-curricular program addressing preventative methods and procedures to combat hate, violence, prejudice, harassment and bias,” said Patrie. The LCS CRT students meets after school twice a month to discuss ideas to create a safe school environment for all students.
Students will be embarking upon visiting businesses in the greater Lisbon community to better understand the broader scope of real- life experiences in the workplace and how important respecting rights of others are in and out of school.
“We are fortunate to have the support of the LCS Parent Teacher Organization, local businesses, parents and teachers who recognize the importance of intervention and peer building to reduce intolerance. Students were energized after the training and felt empowered to work toward creating and maintaining a supportive, safe and caring environment at school,” said Millhime.
