BIDDEFORD — A 48-year-old man driving a Sears van west on Route 111 had a severe medical condition just before crossing the centerline and colliding head-on with oncoming traffic, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing rescue workers performing CPR on the driver. Nobody else was hurt in the crash.

Police have not yet released the name of the man who suffered the medical condition. Cheri Smith of Acton was driving a Toyota Highlander eastbound when the collision occurred. She was not hurt, police said.

The driver was originally taken to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford then transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Biddeford police and rescue workers are on the scene of a serious head-on crash on Route 111 near the 99 Restaurant.

The crash was reported at about 10:20 a.m. Police were unable to provide any additional details immediately.
