PORTLAND — Four Portland restaurants are kicking off the new year by offering calorie counters more incentive to shed a few pounds with lunch specials priced on their calorie count.

The Spartan Grill, El Rayo, Sebago Brewing Company and DiMillo’s are taking part in the “Calories Count Lunch” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

As an example, a pollo rice and bean bowl at El Rayo will sell for $5.56 because it has 556 calories, a savings of $1.94 from the regular price. Sebago Brewing will sell its baked haddock sandwich for $5.32, down from the normal price of $9.49.

The restaurants are teaming up with the city’s obesity prevention initiative for the event.
