WATERBORO — A Gorham man faces charges of robbing more than $1,100 from a Hannaford supermarket in Waterboro after he was captured by York County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday.

Christopher Dimastrantonio, 23, also is a suspect in similar robberies from businesses in Portland, Scarborough and Gorham over the past two months as well as a string of daytime burglaries, police said.

Police were called to the Hannaford store on 20 Sokokis Trail around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday after a masked man entered the store, said he had a gun and demanded money or he would shoot the clerk.

Witnesses were able to give police a description of the car the man got into. Deputies stopped the car on Route 202 in Hollis five minutes later, according to a press release from the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Police recovered evidence in the vehicle linking Dimastrantonio to the robbery.

Dimastrantonio is being held at the York County Jail on $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in York District Court today on charges of robbery and violating bail conditions from a previous arrest.
