PORTLAND — New Boston Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine has been added to the guest list for the Portland Sea Dogs Hot Stove Banquet, the Sea Dogs announced today.

The annual banquet is next Friday, Jan. 13, at 5:30 p.m., at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland. Tickets are $50 and proceeds go to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Only about 40 tickets remain, according to Sea Dogs media director Chris Cameron.

The banquet will also include appearances by Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Seattle Mariners pitcher Charlie Furbush, a South Portland native. Former Sea Dogs outfielder Josh Reddick was initially on the list of invited guests, but backed out because of a scheduled surgery (Reddick has since been traded to the A’s).

When Reddick could not make it, the Sea Dogs contacted the Red Sox about another player or Valentine. The new manager said he was available.

Valentine was named the Red Sox manager last month, replacing Terry Francona.
