FALMOUTH – Maine State Ballet has received two grants that will help the dance company present the ballet “Swan Lake” at Portland’s Merrill Auditorium on March 31 and April 1.

The Sam L. Cohen Foundation and the Davis Family Foundation each contributed $7,500. The funds will be used to offset technical costs of the ambitious production, including lighting.

“Swan Lake,” composed by Tchaikovsky and premiered by the Bolshoi Ballet in 1877, is considered one of the great classical ballets. Maine State Ballet staged “Swan Lake” at Merrill Auditorium in May 2006.

Performances of “Swan Lake” are scheduled for 2 p.m. March 31 and April 1. For information, call Maine State Ballet at 781-7672 or visit mainestateballet.org.
