LISBON — A Lisbon man died early this morning when a fire swept through his mobile home on Larry Drive, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

A press release issued this morning by the Maine Department of Public Safety states the fire took place at 5 Larry Drive, located off Pinewoods Road.

“Fire investigators say the lone occupant of the house called 911 at midnight to report the fire and apparently was overcome by smoke before he (could) escape,” the release states. “The body of 41-year-old Richard A. Davis was found in his bedroom. A team of three fire marshal investigators is now attempting to pinpoint the cause.”

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said this morning that one thing fire marshals will explore is whether a water pipe that froze over the weekend might have had any connection to the fatal fire, but an official ruling on the cause had not been released this morning.

This is Maine’s first fire death of 2012, according to the release.

Kathy Malloy, Lisbon’s assessing assistant, said 5 Larry Drive is located within the Grimmels Mobile Home Park, and that the mobile home located at the site was assessed by the town at $16,700 as of April 2011.

Nearly a year ago, Lisbon experienced another fatal fire on March 4, 2011, when two young sisters died in a second floor bedroom on Summer Street.

Four other children and their mother survived the blaze, but firefighters were unable to save Natalie Hogan, 11, and Kelsey Hogan, 6.

A team of investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office ruled that blaze accidental, according to McCausland.

Lisbon firefighters reportedly remained at the Larry Drive location this morning. Phone calls to the fire department were not returned by press time.
