AUGUSTA (AP) — A state panel has cleared the Christian Civic League of Maine and the Christian Education League of claims that they illegally fired a former administrative staffer and tried to intimidate him for filing a complaint.

Michael Hein had worked for the Christian Civic League of Maine since June 2006 and was fired August 2010.

Hein told the Maine Human Rights Commission that he was retaliated against him as a “whistleblower” for telling the Department of Labor that the group had an illegal working relationship with a staff writer.

The league said Hein was fired because of deep philosophical differences between him and the new leadership of the league and his unwillingness to change.

The Kennebec Journal reports that Hein said Monday he knew he had a difficult task.
