NEWBURYPORT, MA — Charles B. Thomas, age 95, longtime Salisbury resident, died early Thursday morning, January 26, 2012 at Country Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Newburyport.

He was the beloved husband of Janet H. (Bates) Thomas who died August 26, 1995.

One of three children of the late Tracy A. and Alice (Batchelder) Thomas, he was born in Lynn on December 30, 1916 and was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 1934.

Mr. Thomas worked his entire life as a professional painter with the late Raymond S. Noyes. With pride and true professionalism, they painted many of the establishments in the Merrimack Valley, both residential and commercial, either inside or outside or both. No advertising was ever needed, their workmanship was sufficient. In his retirement, Charlie enjoyed his woodworking and his gardening, cultivating many varieties of breathtaking dahlias, that he would share with his family and friends.

He leaves behind his two daughters, Roberta B. Currier and husband, Paul W. of Newburyport; and Judith A. Smith, also of Newburyport; three grandchildren, Tracy Thomas and wife Katie of Phippsburg, ME; Lisa Thomas and companion Rob Carpenter of NH; and Richard Currier and wife Karyn of Raymond, NH; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Mercedes and Jessica; his daughter-inlaw, Helene Thomas of Phippsburg, ME; a sister-inlaw, Nancy Jane Thomas of Salisbury; along with several generations of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Charles B. Thomas, Jr. Of Phippsburg, ME; a son-in-law, Frank W. Smith, II who died December 22, 2011; a brother, Roland Thomas; a sister, Ruth L. Fyfe and a great-grandson, Justin Thomas of Phippsburg, ME, who died January 2, 2012.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1 P.M. at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, with a period of visitation from 12: 30 P. M. to 1 P. M. immediately prior to the services. Interment in Long Hill Cemetery, Salisbury will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Health Assistance Foundation, for macular degeneration research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, Maryland 20871.
