WELLS — Dylan Stevens scored 12 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter Tuesday night as seventh-seeded Wells rallied to a 56-49 victory against 10th-ranked Cape Elizabeth in a Western Class B boys’ basketball prelim.

Joe Spinelli made two steals and Zach Deshaies had one to help key Wells’ 19-8 fourth-quarter run.

Deshaies added 12 points, and Jake Moody had eight points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (12-7).

The Capers (7-12) took a 17-12 lead in the first quarter and held on until Wells went ahead 44-43 in the final five minutes.

Chris Robicheaw scored 15 points and Henry Babcock added 11 for Cape Elizabeth.

SACOPEE VALLEY 52, TELSTAR 31: Jeff Taylor scored 17 of his game-high 25 points in the second half as the eighth-seeded Hawks (6-13) used a 34-22 run to beat the ninth-ranked Rebels (8-11) in a Western Class C prelim at South Hiram.

Taylor, who had seven blocks and 12 rebounds, was 7 of 7 from the foul line in the second half. Mike Anderson added 11 of his 15 points after halftime.

When Dom Haines of Telstar hit two field goals early in the first quarter, Sacopee switched to a box-and-one defense. Freshman Dominic Locke was the floater who guarded Haines and held him to five points the rest of the way.

 

POLAND 53, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 35: Ricky Bryant had 15 points for the ninth-seeded Knights (11-8), who shot 13 of 17 from the line in the fourth quarter to beat the eighth-ranked Falcons (11-8) in a Western Class B prelim at Rumford.

Andrew Peterson added 12 points and Logan Nichols had 11 for Poland, including 6 of 8 from the foul line in the fourth.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

MEDOMAK VALLEY 49, WINSLOW 30: Alanna Vose shot 17 of 20 from the foul line and finished with 29 points to lead the seventh-seeded Panthers (13-6) past the 10th-ranked Black Raiders (10-9) in an Eastern Class B preliminary game at Waldoboro.

 

WAYNFLETE 65, LISBON 31: Martha Veroneau scored a season-high 31 points with nine rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead the seventh-seeded Flyers (12-7) past the 10th-ranked Greyhounds (7-12) in a Western Class C prelim at Portland.

Veroneau hit four 3-pointers on her way to 20 first-half points, helping Waynflete take a 39-15 lead.

HOCKEY

GORHAM 13, MASSABESIC-OLD ORCHARD BEACH 2: Spence Cowand and Chris Hardy each had two goals and four assists to lead the Rams (10-6) past Massabesic-Old Orchard Beach (5-10-1) at Gorham.

Eliot Gagne added two goals and two assists, and Matt Hooker had a goal and four assists for the Rams.
