BURLINGTON, Vt. — A former coach and owner of a gymnastics business in Vermont has pleaded guilty to a child-pornography charge.

Thirty-nine-year-old Nathaniel Goodale, formerly of Berlin, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors as jury selection was about to start Wednesday in a federal trial.

The Burlington Free Press reports Goodale, former owner of North Star Gymnastics in Berlin, was arrested on a voyeurism charge stemming from the secret videotaping of a girl. He pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted possession of child pornography and was required to register as a sex offender.

The prosecution and defense have agreed to recommend no prison time under terms of the plea deal. But Judge William K. Sessions could order Goodale to be supervised for up to life by federal probation officers and fined up to $250,000, under the plea agreement.

The state charge stemmed from videotaping of a girl younger than 18 from fall 2009 until July 2010, according the Free Press.

Under the terms of the agreement, he is also to have no contact, directly or indirectly, with anyone younger than 18 except in the presence of an adult who is aware of his background and has been cleared by a federal probation officer.
