WATERVILLE ( AP) — Police say six people were hurt when a speeding vehicle caused an accident that damaged five other cars waiting at a red light in front of the fire station in Waterville.

Witnesses tell the Morning Sentinel that the driver of the car that hit the others at about 4: 45 p. m. Sunday appeared to be “determined” as she sped toward the intersection.

Police say she was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Her name was not made public.

One of the other drivers says the woman’s vehicle struck his truck and the vehicle next to him. Her car went airborne, flipped and spun across about 40 feet before slamming into the rear bumpers of two cars waiting at the light. One of those cars was pushed into a sixth vehicle.
