PORTLAND — United States Congressman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) will be the featured speaker at the Maine People’s Alliance 30th anniversary celebration in June.

Jesse Graham, Executive Director of the MPA, announced today that Frank will talk about national financial reform at the organization’s June 9th dinner. The event will be held at Woodfords Congregational Church in Portland.

Graham said MPA’s annual dinner is also a chance to celebrate the state’s progressive leaders, several of whom will be honored at the event.

Frank is the ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee. As a member of that committee, Frank fought successfully for the passage of the “Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.”

In January, Frank announced that he and his longtime partner, Jim Ready of Ogunquit, plan to get married. Frank is outspoken on civil rights issues and is considered the most prominent openly gay politician in the country, Graham said.

Frank has said he plans to retire from Congress next year after serving 32 years in the House.

Tickets to the dinner are $30 and can be ordered by calling 797-0967.
