PORTLAND — Carol Bass will exhibit “A Powerful Joy of Colors” April 6-27 in the Lewis Gallery of the Portland Public Library. The show includes her walking houses, energy sculptures, large dancing paintings and poems created over the past three decades.

A public reception will be from 5 to 8 p.m. April 6 as part of Portland’s First Friday Art Walk. Bass’s work is defined by bold strokes of vivid color and inspired by “the energy that runs throughout the universe and our connection to this spirit,” she says.

The work ranges from her three-dimensional “Walking Houses” and “Totems” series in the 1980s, constructed from found objects, to her 1990s energy sculptures and present-day large abstracts.

Her work conveys energy between the maker and the artist’s brush; the mystery pulsing from color, form and line; and the connections of all people.
