Wheeler leads the victory for Scarborough over Biddeford in schoolboy lacrosse
John Wheeler had five goals and four assists Monday to lead Scarborough to a 12-0 victory against Biddeford in a schoolboy lacrosse game at Scarborough High.
Jon Blaisdell added three assists for the Red Storm (2-0).
Matt Stone made 26 saves for Biddeford (0-1).
COLLEGES
BASEBALL: Lincoln Sanborn drove in four runs on three hits to lead St. Joseph’s (26-3) to a 17-2 victory against Rivier (4-25) in the first game of a doubleheader at Standish. Sanborn then pitched a two-hit shutout for a 7-0 victory in the second game.
Sam Butts and Dan Achorn added two RBI each in the first game as the Monks finished with 14 hits.
Sanborn struck out seven and walked one in the second game. Achorn went 3 for 4 with three runs.
SOFTBALL: Emily Bard and Charlotte Lewis pitched one-hitters as Southern Maine Community College (14-19, 10-1) swept the College of Saint Joseph’s (0-4), 19-1 and 20-0 in a pair of five-inning games at Rutland, Vt.
Bard struck out eight and Kathyn Gilio was 3 for 4 with a home run in the first game, and Lewis struck out seven and homered in the second game. Jamie Moody and Allyssa Pane also homered.
MEN’S LACROSSE: Ian Mendoza scored four goals to lead Norwich in an 11-4 win over St. Joseph’s at Northfield, Vt.
Norwich (8-4, 6-1 GNAC) outscored the Monks 7-1 in the first half. Paul Dolewa scored a man-up goal with 8:39 left in the first quarter for the Monks (7-8, 5-2) to make it 1-1. Dolewa and Jonathan Horgan finished with two goals each for the Monks.
