FARMINGTON — A mock drunken driving accident scene will be created in Farmington in hopes of giving college students a graphic reminder of the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.

The University of Maine at Farmington and NorthStar EMS, the regional ambulance service for Franklin County, are collaborating on the event at the campus on Thursday. Maine State Police will be on hand to demonstrate the arrest process and accident reconstruction.

The staged accident scene will be closed to traffic that day from 3-6 p.m.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says car crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers, and one out of three of these is alcohol-related.
