ALFRED — The Old Orchard Beach man accused of fatally stabbing a friend made his first court appearance today in York County Superior Court.

Michael Swenson, 44, is charged with murder in the death of 49-year-old Roger White, also of Old Orchard Beach. White’s body was discovered behind a bar in Old Orchard Beach over the weekend.

According to a police affidavit, Swenson told a friend, Patrick Welch, that he thought he he might have killed somebody.

Welch told police that Swenson said he had gotten into a fight with White while playing pool at the Whaler bar, that the two went outside, and that White had hit Swenson on top of the head and had choked Swenson.

“Welch said that Swenson said he went ‘ballistic’ or berzerk.’ Swenson told Welch ‘that it’s bad, it’s bad,’ ” the document stated.

Welch said Swenson cried and asked for a ride to the police department. Swenson had gone to police but said he wanted to have a lawyer before he talked to them.

Swenson did not enter a plea during his appearance before Justice Arthur Brennan this morning. He remains held without bail.
