WATERVILLE — Police are investigating the early morning stabbing of two men near The Chez Paree on Water Street in the city’s South End.

Police Chief Joseph Massey said police were called to the bar about 1 a.m. today and found a man in a nearby apartment building at 8 Sherwin St. slashed across the chest so severely that his ribs were visible, and the other man was stabbed in the elbow and groin.

One man is at Maine Medical Center in Portland; the other at Thayer Unit, MaineGeneral Medical Center here, according to the chief.

He asked anyone who may have information on the stabbing to call police at 680-4700.
