The South Portland National Little League held its Opening Day ceremonies Saturday at the Majors Softball field on Pine St. The event included the introduction of the SPNLL’s teams and coaches and was followed by the start of league play for the nearly 350 boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 14 who comprise the SPNLL’s Junior League, Little League and T-Ball League. Alan Livingston (2nd from right), a member of Maine’s Baseball Hall of Fame, was honored for his contributions to South Portland baseball. Livingston, a South Portland city councilor, threw the ceremonial first pitch to his granddaughter, Meghan Livingston (next to her grandfather). Also pictured are Meghan’s dad, Todd Livington (athletic director at South Portland High School), SPNLL President Chris Kelley, and “Slugger,” the Portland Sea Dogs popular mascot.
