PORTLAND — The Maine Green Independent Party is holding its 2012 annual state convention in Portland today.

Party activists will meet at the Maine Historical Society. The convention keynote speakers are Pat LaMarche and Jonathan Carter. Both are former Maine Green Party gubernatorial candidates and are credited for the party’s early growth.

Presidential candidates Jill Stein, Roseanne Barr and Kent Mesplay will also address the convention via Skype. Attendees will also have a chance to meet and hear from local candidates for office, discuss issues facing the state this election year, and vote for the party’s presidential nominee.

The Greens’ convention coincides with the state Republican Convention in Augusta.
