SANFORD — The Sanford School Committee is scheduled to decide tonight whether to change the high school’s mascot from “Redskins,” which American Indians have said is offensive.
The vote will follow a public comment period. If the committee decides to change the name, the superintendent will make a recommendation for selecting a new mascot.
Sanford High School is the only school in the state that still uses the nickname.
Tonight’s meeting will be held in the Town Council chambers on the third floor of the Town Hall Annex, and starts at 7 p.m.
