Three teams from Maine are among 61 across the country taking part in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament.

St. Joseph’s (33-7) of Standish, Husson (33-11) of Bangor and the University of New England (26-12) of Biddeford drew the fifth, sixth and seventh seeds in an eight-team regional scheduled to begin Thursday in Amherst, Mass.

St. Joe’s will play No. 4 Keene State (25-10-1) at noon Thursday followed by Husson against No. 3 Amherst (34-4) at 2 p.m. and UNE against No. 2 Plattsburgh State (31-9) at 4 p.m. in the double elimination format.

Eight regional winners will advance to the national finals in Salem, Va., scheduled for May 18-22.

All three Maine teams qualified for the tournament by winning their respective conference championships.
