LAWRENCE, Mass. — A Lawrence woman accused of throwing hot cooking oil on another woman she thought was having an affair with her boyfriend has been released on $5,000 bail, but remains under house arrest with GPS monitoring while awaiting trial.

A judge Wednesday denied the prosecution’s request to hold 45-year-old Judith Medina without bail.

The Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/JiEH3Y ) reports that her lawyer told the judge she had no criminal record.

Police say Medina threw the oil at 22-year-old Maria Mejia last month during an argument at Medina’s boyfriend’s apartment. Medina thought her boyfriend was in a relationship with Mejia, but he told police Mejia was at his apartment to help his daughter pack for a trip.

Mejia suffered burns on her face, neck, chest and armpit and has undergone a skin graft.
