AUGUSTA — Supporters of President Obama today will launch a campaign designed to tap the president’s support among women voters.
Women for Obama kicks off today at 10 a.m. with simultaneous press conferences in Portland and Bangor.
Event organizers say Obama has worked to protect and advance policies that promote fairness, equal opportunity and a level playing field for women. They claim that the president’s advocacy for women stands in contrast to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee.
Obama supporters say Romney will win the nomination by “running to the extreme right on issues important to women,” skirting questions about the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and has called Roe v. Wade “one of the darkest moments in Supreme Court history.”
The Portland event will be held at Putney Inc. at 400 Congress St., Suite 200. Helen Regan, Maine Women for Obama co-chair, and Jean Hoffman, founder and CEO of Putney Inc., will join supporters to launch the campaign.
The Bangor launch will be hosted by Democratic House Minority Leader Rep. Emily Cain, of Orono, and small business owner Lisa McKinney of Bangor.
