PORTLAND — The Maine Education Association has voted to endorse the same-sex marriage proposal on the November ballot.

The teachers’ union represents more than 24,000 active and retired members. Its endorsement was voted on last weekend at the MEA’s annual meeting.

Matt McTighe of Mainers United for Marriage says his group is grateful for the Maine Education Association’s support.
