PORTLAND — Travis Godbout hit an RBI single with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Portland to a 3-2 win over Deering in a Telegram League baseball game Monday at Hadlock Field.

Nate Smart struck out five and walked one while throwing a six-hitter for Portland (5-10). He also tied the game with a two-out RBI triple during a two-run sixth-inning rally.

Deering (4-11) opened the scoring on a third-inning RBI single by Luke Boyle and made it 2-0 on Dominic Arris’ RBI single in the fifth.

Nick DiBiase scattered nine hits and finished with five strikeouts and two walks while pitching a complete game for the Rams.

SOFTBALL

SOUTH PORTLAND 8, GORHAM 1: Erin Bogdanovich broke a scoreless tie with a two-run triple during a four-run fifth inning, and also struck out nine and walked two while throwing a two-hitter as the Red Riots (14-2) downed the Rams (6-10) at Gorham.

Sam DiBiase, Laurine German and Libby Grant finished with two hits apiece to pace a 12-hit attack for South Portland, which has won 13 straight.
