PORTLAND — The Exit 8 northbound ramp off I-295 in Portland closed most of Tuesday due to a washout, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

The Washington Avenue ramp takes vehicles under Tukey’s Bridge.

Officials blamed the washout on Tuesday morning’s heavy rains. Infrastructure work alongside the entrance ramp leading from Washington Avenue to the interstate also contributed to the problem, officials said.

The closure affects motorists traveling west from the highway toward outer Washington Avenue. Motorists traveling southbound can still exit onto Washington Avenue.

The Maine Department of Transportation re-opened the exit at 5 p.m.
