ALFRED — Patrick Dapolito was sentenced to 55 years in prison today for fatally shooting his wife, Kelly Winslow, in their Limington home in March 2010.

The sentence was handed down in York County Superior Court this afternoon.

The 41-year-old Dapolito at first said he accidentally shot his wife after a night of drug use in their home. He later changed his story, saying she was killed by drug dealers the couple was associated with.

In a February 2012 trial, a jury found Dapolito guilty of murder. In convicting him, the jury rejected his claim that Winslow died because of a dispute between Dapolito and associates in his marijuana-trafficking business.

Prosecutors have described the killing as domestic violence, saying Dapolito killed his wife after learning that she wanted to leave him.
