KENNEBUNK — A woman lost her dog in a fire that caused heavy fire and smoke damage to her home at 250 Cat Mousam Road tonight.
Kennebunk Fire Chief Stephen Nichols said Sharon Robinson had returned home from work around 5 p.m. and let her black Labrador retriever outside to go to the bathroom before she put the dog back in the house.
While she was visiting friends down the street, the fire erupted in the kitchen, generating an enormous amount of smoke and sending extreme heat throughout the two-story home.
“The heat and smoke worked its way through the house, causing heavy damage,” Nichols said.
Robinson will be able to stay with relatives until her home, which is insured, can be repaired, the chief said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
