After experiencing a weather delay, the first large cruise ship of the season called to port this morning.

The Carnival Glory arrived in Portland early this morning, carrying nearly 3,000 passengers and nearly 1,200 crew. The next ship of that size to call to port will not be until September.

Carnival Glory was supposed to call to port Monday, but was delayed because of high seas and record rainfall, which dumped more than 6 inches of rain in Portland, causing some coastal flooding. The ship, which spent an extra day in Boston, is scheduled to depart at 6 p.m.today for St. John, New Brunswick.

Fifty-nine cruise ships, carrying nearly 70,000 passengers and more than 26,000 crew, are expected to arrive in Portland this year. The Independence, carrying 98 passengers and 26 crew, will call to port on Friday.
