AUGUSTA — More than 50 science and math whizzes have received awards from Gov. Paul LePage and Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen.

Some of the students brought their robots to the State House on Tuesday when they received the STEM Youth Award. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Recipients included three robotics teams, from Jay, Farmington and Oakland, who attended a national competition in St. Louis. Other recipients were two students who will represent Maine this summer at the National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia and the Real World Design Challenge team from Falmouth, which competed in a national competition in Washington, D.C.
