VASSALBORO — Maine public safety officials say 17 new police canine teams are winding up their training with graduation ceremonies at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro.

The police officers and their dogs come from the state, county and municipal police ranks. Their 12 weeks of training culminates with graduation ceremonies today.

The 17 new canine teams join about 80 other law enforcement canine teams on duty throughout the state.

Six of the new teams are with state police, three are with the Corrections Department, and the rest are with county and municipal departments.
