BANGOR — A South Dakota man charged with killing a homeless Maine man whose body was found engulfed in flames is expected to enter a plea to a manslaughter charge.
Kenneth John Bruning of Rapid City, S.D. is scheduled to appear today in the Penobscot Judicial Center in connection with the March 2006 death of Trevor Sprague. The 36-year-old Sprague’s body was found in flames under a Bangor bridge.
Bruning’s attorney tells the Bangor Daily News his client plans to enter a plea under the Alford doctrine, which means he acknowledges the prosecution has enough evidence to convict.
Bruning had faced a murder charge, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. A manslaughter conviction carries a maximum of 30 years in prison.
