The tennis postseason has come to an end and no local teams will be playing for a state title Saturday.
Cape Elizabeth’s boys’ team was the last team standing. The third-ranked Capers blanked No. 6 York, 5-0, in the quarterfinals and ousted No. 2 Lincoln Academy, 4-1, in the semis, but Wednesday morning, Cape Elizabeth had no answer for defending Class B champion Falmouth and lost in the regional final, 4-1, to finish the season 12-3.
In Western A, reigning champion Scarborough earned the third seed and ousted No. 6 Portland in the quarterfinals, 4-1. The Red Storm then dropped a tough 3-2 decision at second-ranked Gorham in the semifinals and finished the year 11-3.
South Portland (4-8) didn’t qualify for the postseason.
On the girls’ side, reigning Western A champion Scarborough, ranked fourth, blanked No. 5 Kennebunk, 5-0, in the quarterfinals, but the Red Storm was ousted by top-ranked McAuley after a tough 3-2 loss in the semifinals. Scarborough finished the year 10-4.
South Portland, seeded 11th, dropped a 3-2 preliminary round decision to sixth-ranked Windham and ended up 5-8.
In Western B, Cape Elizabeth went in sixth, but dropped a close 3-2 decision to No. 3 Greely to wind up 7-6.
