Eight baseball players from across the state were named finalists for the John Winkin Award, presented each year to the top senior playing high school baseball in Maine.
Finalists include Max Andrews of John Bapst in Bangor, Sam Dexter of Messalonskee in Oakland, Luke Fernandes of Marshwood in South Berwick, Corbin Hyde of Lewiston, Dustin Sawtelle of Lee Academy in Lee, Ben Wessel of Scarborough and J.T. Whitten of Waterville.
The award, named for the former University of Maine, Colby College and Husson University baseball coach, will be presented before the June 22 Senior All-Star Game at the University of Maine in Orono.
