Greely’s Top Ten Seniors

Valedictorian Lena Champlin, daughter of Holly Hurd and Dave Champlin, participated in Science Research, International Baccalaureate Program, 4H Sheep Club and drama. Champlin was involved in the National Honor Society, French Honor Society, Model U.N., Wescustago Youth Chorale, Swim Team and Safe Passage. She volunteered at Hart Cat Shelter and a community garden. She was awarded the American Museum of Natural History Young Naturalist Award, Junior Science and Humanities Northern New England Award, Maine State Water Conference winner, Maine College of Art Book Award, National Junior Duck Stamp Winner for Maine, New England Young Writer’s Conference at Breadloaf and second place at Portland Women’s Literacy Union Writing Contest.

Salutatorian Hanna Willwerth, daughter of Jane Saunier and Adam Willwerth, was active in swimming, track, Debate Club, World Affair’s Council of Maine, Model U.N., Safe Passage, Writing Club, Inkwell, National Honor Society and German Club. She also was a photographer for Drama Club and participated in the International Baccalaureate Program, Maine Democratic Party and Maine Peoples Alliance. She was the Lincoln Douglas Debate team captain and team leader for Safe Passage. She was national qualifier for World Affairs Council, national qualifier for National Forensic League LD Debate and placed first in Maine State Competition, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and National Latin Honor Society.

Elizabeth Hayward Bouchard, daughter of Mark and Christina Bouchard, participated in Greely Chorus and Madrigal Singers, varsity volleyball and lacrosse teams. Bouchard was involved in the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. She was awarded the Academic Achievement Award, Varsity Lacrosse Sportsmanship Award and the Academic All-State Award.

Gregory Ferland, son of John and Christina Ferland, participated in Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Concert Band, Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Portland Youth Wind Ensemble, GHS Chorus and the Madrigals. He was co-captain of both the Math Team and indoor track team, with varsity participation in cross-country, indoor and outdoor track and lacrosse. He was involved in the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, Safe Passage and the Outing Club. He was a National Merit Scholarship finalist, a medalist at State and League Math Meets, a silver medalist at the National Spanish Exam, and was awarded he Outstanding Musicianship Award at the 2012 MMEA State Jazz Festival.

Kimberly Johnson, daughter of Eric and Debbie Johnson, participated in Swim Team, Cross-Country Team, Track Team, Math Team, Envirothon and French Club. She was involved in National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society. She was counselor-in-training at YMCA Camp Coniston and selected to be a leader-in-training. Johnson was also an International Baccalaureate Candidate. She was awarded the Middlebury Book Award and won second place in Poetry Out Loud.

Katherine Longo, daughter of JoAnn and Rick Longo, participated in cross-country, Quidditch Club, GAC, Model U.N., National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. She was senior stage manager for Greely Drama, art editor for Inkwell, and math tutor coordinator for NHS. She was awarded the Smith Book Award and an honorary mention at the Woman’s Literacy Union Youth Council, and was a Presidential Scholars candidate.

Richard Gus Longo, son of JoAnn and Rick Longo, participated in swim team, ultimate frisbee, Quidditch Club (co-captain), Math Team (co-captain), Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society. He was awarded the Yale Book Award, first prize at the American Mathematics Competition and Western Maine Conference All Academic Team Swimming 2012. He was also involved in Maine Jazz Camp, was a Safe Passage volunteer in Guatemala and competed in Moody’s Math Challenge 2012.

Ian Philbrick, son of Leighton R. Philbrick and Sadhana Prasad, participated was editor-in-chief of Inkwell and participated in Debate Team, Greely Junior Classical League and drama. He was involved in National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Latin Honor Society (president), World Affairs Council of America, National Forensic League, Safe Passage and Junior Classical League. He was also Writing Club president and NHS Tutoring Program coordinator. He was a National Debate Tournament qualifier and 2011 Bread Loaf Young Writers’ Conference attendee. He was awarded National Latin Exam gold medals, bronze medal at the National Spanish Exam, first place at the 2010 Maine Junior Classical League Fall Academic Sweeps, and was a qualifying team member of the World Affairs Council of America National Quiz Bowl.

Audrey A. Parolin, daughter of Pauline and Scott Parolin, She participated in National Honor Society. Parolin volunteered at Maine Medical Center, Diabetes Dash for Kids, Breaking Strides for Breast Cancer and at the Cumberland Soccer Club. She captained varsity soccer, lacrosse and Nordic skiing. She played the 2012 Special Olympics High School All-Star Game, was Western Maine All-Academic in lacrosse and track. She was awarded the Western Maine Conference Athletic Recognition Award in soccer, track and lacrosse, and Offensive MVP in lacrosse. 

Stefan Sandreuter, son of Hanni and Bill Sandreuter, participated in the National Honor Society, French Honor Society, Community Service Club and Bigs & Littles. He was Outing Club president and middle school and summer
track coach. He was involved in varsity cross-country and captained varsity indoor and outdoor track. He was awarded Rensselaer Medal, Western Maine Conference All-Conference and All Academic Teams, and was named Greely’s 2011 Fall Athlete of the Year.
