The Maine Red Claws are looking for another head coach.

Dave Leitao left the team Monday after just one year to take a position as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri.

Leitao, who had been a head coach in college for nine years at three schools, led the Red Claws to a 21-29 record in his lone professional season.

“Dave Leitao has a tremendous resume of developing young talent and of getting the best out of his players,” said Jana Spaulding, the Red Claws vice president of public and community services. “Prior to joining the Red Claws, he had already developed an impressive reputation as a college coach and it was no surprise to see his name coming up in conversation as openings occurred this summer.”

Leitao, 52, succeeded Austin Ainge, who coached the Red Claws for their first two seasons and now works for the Boston Celtics.
