WALDOBORO – An 81-year-old Belfast woman died in a car crash Saturday afternoon.

Waldoboro Police said the accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. on Route 1. They said a pickup truck traveling south on Route 1 rear-ended a sedan that had slowed to make a left turn.

Police said the sedan was driven by Richard Bryant, 75, of Belfast. Florence Bryant, 81, was a passenger. Florence Bryant died at the scene of the accident, they said, and Richard Bryant was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital and later was taken by lifeflight to Maine Medical Center, where he was reported in serious condition Saturday night.

The pickup truck was driven by Andrew Chapman, 35, from Waldoboro, and his wife and child were passengers. All three were taken to Pen Bay Hospital.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.
