BATH— A Bath man who embezzled more than $59,000 from a local excavating contractor he worked for has been sentenced to a year in jail and ordered to pay restitution.

Dale Marshall entered a guilty plea last month to heft by unauthorized taking or transfer and was sentenced to five years in jail, with all but one year suspended and three years of probation.

The Times Record reports that as conditions of probation, the 57-year-old Marshall is prohibited from having any contact with Stephanie and Jamie Hill, owners of J.R. Hill and Sons of West Bath.

Investigators say Marshall stole the money while he worked as office manager from 2007 until 2011.

Authorities say Marshall wrote checks to himself that were supposed to be used to pay the company’s vendors.
