A Gorham man died Wednesday after jumping from a rocky ledge known as Frye’s Leap located at the end of Raymond Cape.

The Maine Warden Service and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of Durward Worster, 29, Wednesday afternoon. According to authorities, Worster and friends were diving from the cliffs into Sebago Lake at 3:30 p.m. Friends witnessed Worster hit the water but he did not resurface. His friends immediately began looking for him and called 911. The Cumberland County Sheriff Office Dive Team recovered his body at the base of the ledges at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Game Warden Mike Pierre will lead the investigation for the Maine Warden Service. Assisting in the search was Game Warden Sergeant Jason Luce, Warden Neal Wykes, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant James Estabrook, Raymond Fire and Rescue, and the Portland Water District.

Officials remind the public the cliff’s of Frye’s Leap are private property and posted no trespassing.
